Brattleboro, Dummerston, Guilford, & Wilmington; Windham County

This Management Unit is comprised of the following units:

• Dutton Pines State Park
• Fort Dummer State Park
• Molly Stark State Park
• Sweet Pond State Park

Planning Overview:

The Brattleboro Management Unit is comprised of four state parks and associated forest lands located in southeastern Vermont.

Dutton Pines and Sweet Pond State Parks are popular no-fee day use areas with public parking and trails. Dutton Pines State Park features several historic Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) era structures off State Route 5 while Sweet Pond offers hiking in a more remote and tranquil setting. Fort Dummer and Molly Stark State Parks are traditional fee campgrounds with camping facilities and trails.

Unique Features:

Located in an ecologically diverse part of Vermont, some unique features include:

• Uncommon Natural Communities and Plants at Fort Dummer State Park.
• A viewing tower on the summit of Mt. Olga at Molly Stark State Park.          
• Hiking trails at all four parcels.           
• Historical resources at Dutton Pines, Fort Dummer, and Sweet Pond State Parks.

These parcels offer recreational opportunities in a region with a very limited area of public land.

The Sweet Pond dam rehabilitation project was completed in October, 2019 and the pond was refilled later that fall. The Guilford Historical Society has officially named it the Franklin Dam. A historical marker will be installed that explains the history of the dam site. The Sweet Pond Trail has reopened with a bridge across Keets Brook 150 feet downstream of the dam.
