Furbearers & Bears: Vermont Fish & Wildlife at Mt. Ascutney State Park

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department helps conserve our local fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the people of Vermont. Join us at the summit trailhead to learn about the conservation and management of furbearers and how to prevent and resolve human/bear conflicts. This will be a table style event, so you can stop by at any time between 10am and 3pm on your way to check out the scenic overlook or hike the summit trails.

Butterfly Bonanza at Little River State Park

If you plant it, the pollinators will come! Tour Little River's perennial & wildflower gardens to see what creatures they attract  and discover how healthy ecosystems can be built in your yard. Included handouts about what cultivars are used and native species are present, plus food sources utilized by caterpillars, butterflies and birds.  Nature Center, Duration: 45 min

Owl Prowl & Night Ghost Hike at Little River State Park

Become “crepuscular” on an evening tour of Little River's lost settlement ruins and see how open farmland became a dense northern hardwoods forest. Meets at History Hike Parking, Duration: 2hrs. ***FLASHLIGHTS & STURDY FOOTWEAR REQUIRED; NO CROCS/FLIP-FLOPS allowed!***

Aquadventure! Paddle Tour at Little River State Park

Explore historic Waterbury Reservoir seeking wildlife, spectacular Vermont Views & historical sites. Boat rentals FREE; space limited, RESERVATIONS REQUIRED via Park Office, call in advance (802) 244-7103 or sign up when you arrive. Participants in need of park gear need to arrive at office at 9:30am to pickup paddles & jackets. Starts promptly at 10am at the A-Side Swim Beach, 2hrs.

Rocky Point Interpretive Trail

This hike is a part of the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area guided hikes for September and October, provided by the naturalist at Branbury State Park (Charlie Slack)

Rocky Point Interpreteive Trail - start time 11am

Starting at the Silver Lake trailhead parking area on Rt. 53, this hike follows the Silver Lake trail and connects to the Rocky Point Interpretive trail following the edge of Silver Lake. We’ll be following the interpretive signposts along the trail and learning about the ecology and history of Silver Lake and the surrounding area.

 

Mt. Moosalamoo Hike

This hike is a part of the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area guided hikes for September and October, provided by the naturalist at Branbury State Park (Charlie Slack)

Mt. Moosalamoo Hike - start time 10am

Meet at the Moosalamoo campground to complete a 5-mile out-and-back (moderate) hike to see the views at the top of Mt. Moosalamoo. We will discuss the Abenaki origin of the mountains name, as well as the ways in which Indigenous words and namings have impacted the landscape around us
