As of 3:00 pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, the Commissioner of Forests, Parks and Recreation is rescinding the statewide order directing the Town Forest Fire Wardens to cease issuing open burning permits for all Vermont counties except Bennington and Windham.  This order was issued at 3:00 pm on May 5, 2015.  Widespread soaking rain over the last 2 days and progress in leaf-out and greening of the State’s vegetation has reduced the fire danger concerns to levels low enough to warrant the removal

May 5, 2015 - After a warm, dry weekend and a Red Flag warning yesterday that ended with more than 25 new reports of wild fires, the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation (FPR) has issued an order for all of the state's forest fire wardens to cease issuing burning permits as of 3:00 P.M.

Draft Kingdom Heritage Lands Recreation Management Updates for Public Review

Updated proposals for managing hiking, snowmobiling and horseback riding across much of the Kingdom Heritage Lands of northeastern Vermont will be available for public comment online and in a public meeting on April 9, 2015.

MONTPELIER – The Vermont State Parks invite you to participate in their 2015 Venture Vermont Outdoor Challenge, which will run from April 1, 2015 to October 15, 2015. The program involves an outdoor scavenger hunt for children and adults alike, and includes activities such as identifying amphibians, mapping GPS coordinates, and making camp supplies out of found materials.

A new 1,346-acre State Forest will be created in former Sen. Jim Jeffords’ hometown of Shrewsbury and will be named after the late senator, The Trust for Public Land and the State of Vermont announced today.

“This will be an enduring and well-deserved tribute to Senator Jeffords’ long legacy of environmental stewardship and land conservation,” said Michael Snyder, Commissioner of Forest, Parks and Recreation.

Every year the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Council sponsors Tree Steward Awards as a way to recognize Vermont’s community tree and forests champions.
