MONTPELIER, VT. Vermont State Parks is excited to announce a newly extended operating season for Burton Island and Kamp Kill Kare State Parks. Starting in 2019, both parks will remain open through the last weekend of September.
Burton Island State Park is a 253–acre island located in Lake Champlain’s Inland Sea. The Park offers a 100–slip marina with dockside electricity, bathhouses, water, and a pump-out facility. In addition, Burton Island offers tent-sites, waterfront lean-tos, and rustic cabins available for rent. The Burton Island Bistro provides breakfast and lunch, as well as sundries and groceries.

Both parks will remain open seven days a week, closing the Sunday of the last weekend in September. The Island Runner Ferry, which runs between Burton Island and Kill Kare State Park will operate on its regular schedule through Labor Day. After Labor Day the ferry will run its normal schedule from 12 noon Friday through 11:30 AM Monday only. The Burton Island Bistro will remain open 7 days per week for sundries, groceries and ice, with food service on Saturdays and Sundays.
“We are very excited to be remaining open through the month of September,” says Ryan Baker Dunn, Marine Operation Supervisor for Vermont State Parks. “September is a spectacular time on the lake, with sunny days and warm lake temperatures. Staying open later in the season will allow boaters and campers alike to experience even more of these wonderful parks.”
