Musical Storytelling by Eli Elkus at Knight Point State Park

Free concert with park entry. Meets at the shelter.

Eli Elkus is a Musical Storyteller, SongCraftsman, and Folk Activist. He began sculpting his craft as a young troubadour fishin' for songs by the riversides and busking in the streets of New England. It was here the love of folk music and storytelling found him, connecting with perfect strangers through meter, melody, and merit-making story and song. Music for the people, by the people. And so it goes. The ramblin’ folk singer plays and tells for multigenerational audiences across the USA and beyond, freewheelin’ in his road sweet home 'JeBus' with his trusty hound Bronco.

His performances draw upon a vast repertoire of original songs and stories from his travels and rekindlings of Old Timey Americana, Folk & Blues songs dating back to the early 1900s. Recent works have been in cahoots with his partner in life and songcrafting Lara Wahl, including their first album together, Postcards From Heaven.

Town Hollers Concert at Knight Point State Park

Hailing from the western foot of Camel’s Hump, the Town Hollers are a fiddle-tune-sawing acoustic jam band that pushes the genre into unexpected grooves. With the typical old-timey and grassy instrumentation of mandolin, guitar, fiddle, upright bass, and banjo, the Town Hollers play a swath of fiddle tunes from down south and then add the reedy accordion and harmonica to blend in Quebecois traditions as well as an inventive bunch of originals that draw on Appalachian, Celtic, French and other traditions, with an occasional pinch of dawg.

Concert free with park entry.

Elizabeth Powell: Words in the Woods

Our seasonal “Words in the Woods” program allows Vermonters and visitors to enjoy our state’s natural beauty while listening to and reading literature in the outdoors.

This year, we look forward to joining five Vermont poets in-person at different Vermont State Parks. Join us in celebrating our 50th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of Vermont State Parks by registering for a program today!

Thank you for the support of the Vermont Humanities and the Vermont Arts Council.

Join us for a morning of poetry with Elizabeth Powell. Vermont Humanities will cover the entry fee for the park, so feel free to explore the wilderness after the event.

Elizabeth A.I. Powell is the author of three books of poems, most recently “Atomizer” (LSU Press). Her second book of poems, “Willy Loman’s Reckless Daughter: Living Truthfully Under Imaginary Circumstances” was a “Books We Love 2016” by The New Yorker. Her novel, “Concerning the Holy Ghost's Interpretation of JCrew Catalogues” was published in 2019 in the U.K. Recent poems appear in The New Republic, American Poetry Review, and Women’s Review of Books, among others. She is a Professor of Creative Writing at Northern Vermont University.
