Brighton State Park Scavenger Hunt for Tracks on the Boreal Forest Trail

Come join Laura Lee at Brighton State Park for a Scavenger Hunt on the Boreal Forest Trail. We'll talk a bit about a Boreal Forest and what types of animals make it their home. Campers will get a card with an animals name and they will have to walk the trail and find the track that matches their animal! Can your animal live full time in the Boreal Forest? Why or Why Not? Bring your animal track to the Don Eagle Museum and learn about Chief War Eagle and his son Don Eagle. Then come to the Nature Center to make your own animal Tracks and hear about the regions Predator and Prey! Feel those furs, look at the skulls!

Foraging Basics, Biodiversity, and Ecology of Mushrooms at Brighton State Park!

Families come meet Biologist Annebelle Langlois at Brighton State Park Nature Center! There will be a talk on Foraging Basics, Biodiversity, and Ecology of Fungi, or as we call them Mushrooms! Then we will walk the loop of the Boreal Forest splitting into groups and  forage for mushrooms!  This will be from 3-5 pm! Limit 12 people! 

Brighton State Park Childrens Walk for Fungi and Spore Activity!

Parents come walk the Boreal Forest Trail with your children 14 and under! This will take place at 4:30-6:00 They'll be able to pick Fungi with Biologist, Annebelle Langlois! You'll learn the very basics about Mushrooms and then come back to the Nature Center to make Spore Prints! The next morning between 7:00 - 8:00 come and see the Spore Print Design! Maybe even laminate them!

Brighton State Park's Nature Center is open!

Come visit with Laura Lee about the early years in Brighton and Island Pond area! What two town names did Brighton originally go by? What animals did early settlers hunt/trap to extinction? Which animal was imported from NY and Maine because it was essential to our eco-system? How long can a beavers teeth grow in a year? For a craft we'll do a Beaver Habitat Shadow Box, or a Beaver Stick Center piece which could make a great gift for parents or grandparents!

Meet Laura Lee at Spectacle Pond! What's a Kettle Pond, how was it formed? We'll take a guided hike along the Shore Line Trail, through the Red Pine Trail and back through the Wooded Loop Trail! Can you spot the largest all Natural Red Pine Tree! What makes this forest the only Natural Red Pine Forest in Vermont?

Meet Laura Lee at the Amphitheater! Listen to some town and park history! When did the  railroad first come to Brighton! With the railroad what important people came with the railroad? How did they influence the population of Brighton? How about our Natural Red Pine Forest? How do you think the Railroad played a part of our Natural Red Pine Forest? We'll do a guided hike from the Main Trail,to Shoreline Trail, through the Red Pine Trail up to the Railroad, and on to Indian Point! Can you spot the tree that recently had a lightening strike? How about the biggest Natural Red Pine Tree?
