Guided Hike to Norcross Quarry at Mount Ascutney State Park

Join Mount Ascutney State Park's interpretive naturalist for a hike to the abandoned Norcross Quarry on the Brownsville Trail. Learn about Ascutney's history as the deep heart of an ancient volcano--and see the traces left, one hundred million years later, by the thousands from the surrounding towns who did the dangerous work of quarrying the now-solid rock and hauling it down the mountain.

Duration: Allow one and a half hours to two hours for the complete guided hike.

Difficulty: Moderate hike ascending 600 feet over the 1.1 miles to the quarry, with some sections of steep (>20%) grade. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Exercise best judgement, bring water, and wear sturdy shoes with good tread. Ticks are present in the area, so light, tucked-in clothing is recommend.

Location: Starts at the trailhead of Mount Ascutney's Brownsville Trail (Park map / OpenStreetMap). No charge, but parking is limited.

Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a guardian. Hike may be cancelled due to poor weather--call (802) 674-2060 for confirmation on the day of the hike.
