Come bring a picnic and celebrate 100 years of Mt. Philo State Park with us on August 10th! Listen to the “Secret History of Mt. Philo” with Judy Chaves, join one of the guided hikes with Stephen Wright and Peter Hope to learn more about the geology and botany of the mountain, or join us at the summit to hear Walter Poleman describe, “What We are Looking At” from the main viewpoint. Think you know a lot about Philo? Put your knowledge to the test at our “Philo, Trivia” event. Come listen to tunes from the local Remember Baker band to end the day. Smokey the Bear will be making appearances throughout the morning.
Events free with park entry. Signups required for the guided hikes due to limited capacity.

*Register ahead of time at the Nature Center* Join the interpreter on a different guided hike each week! Ask about plants, wildlife, history, and more! Please bring sturdy hiking shoes (NO flip flops). Will keep hikes under 3 miles/3 hours - can be adjusted based on the group. Meets in the History Hike/Mountain Biking Parking Lot
Guided walk along Vermont's largest hand-built earthen dam with awesome mountain views. Hear the story of how Franklin D. Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps saved the Winooski River Valley from catastrophic flooding, one rock at a time. Meet at the top of the Waterbury dam
What cool things can we find in our streams? Explore the secret life of a shady mountain stream and enjoy cool temperatures on a hot day. Meets at the Stevenson Brook trailhead. Water shoes recommended

Get to Know some of the poisonous, medicinal, and other locally important "keystone" plant species. Meet at the Nature Center
Get to know one of the oldest groups of plants in the world! They don't have seeds or flowers, so how do the spread? Meet at the Stevenson Brook trailhead. Amount of walking/hiking can be accommodated.
When it comes to pollinators and other beautiful flying objects, if you plant it, they will come! Explore the different types of pollinators and the plants they are attracted to. Optional scavenger hunt/art activity. Meet at the Nature Center
