Guided Plant Identification Walk at Lake Carmi State Park

Join our park interpreter on a guided hike on the Walking Trail to identify mushrooms, flowers, ferns, and whatever else we may find! Meet at walking trail near campgrounds, in between loops A & B. Closed toed shoes recommended. Children 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Programs are free to campers or with purchase of day park entry.

Tour of Waterbury Dam at Little River State Park

Guided walk along the crest of Vermont’s largest hand-built earthen dam with awesome mountain views. Learn the story of how the Civilian Conservation Corps saved the Winooski River Valley from flooded ruin, one rock at a time. Meet at top of Waterbury Dam (Little River Rd. near park gate); 1hr.

Butterfly Bonanza at Little River State Park

If you plant it, they will come! See what butterflies visit Little River's ornamental and wildflower gardens and find out how to build functioning ecosystems in your yard, naturally. Bring flying insect nets if you have them. Nature Center, 1hr, option to extend.

Birds On The Move at Little River State Park

Where birds migrate to when they’re not nesting in Vermont and how they get there.  Features nest & taxidermy collection, 42 different Audubon plush bird doll replicas of locally breeding species & interactive live-action role-playing game. Nature Center, 1hr.

Sunset Aquadventure Paddle Tour at Little River State Park

Explore Waterbury Reservoir in search of “crepuscular” wildlife and spectacular Vermont views. See how President Franklin Roosevelt’s CCC “Forest Army” built Waterbury Dam by hand and saved the lower Winooski Valley. Registration required; space is limited, 1st come/1st served. Meets at 6:30pm at Contact Station to check in and get life vests & paddles. 90min or until dark

Here Be Dragonflies....at Little River State Park

Can you catch up to 300+ million years of evolution? See some local dragonflies & damselflies that we’ll try to capture and/or photograph for ID/upload to iNaturalist and the VT Atlas of Life. Bring your flying insect nets if possible. Program includes art-in-the-park materials for kids. 1hr., option to extend.
