Peru; Bennington County
The 118-acre Hapgood State Forest is located in the Town of Peru and surrounds the summit of Bromley Mountain. Much of this State Forest is leased to Bromley, Inc. to be operated as a ski area.
Hapgood State Forest is surrounded on three sides by lands of Green Mountain National Forest. The 3,260-foot Bromley Mountain offers spectacular views in all directions. A fire tower at the summit was recently removed due to its poor condition however there are ongoing fundraising efforts by the Green Mountain Club to replace it with an observation tower.
The Long Trail and Appalachian Trail are co-located in here and cross the northwest corner of State Forest. The trail is maintained by the Green Mountain Club. Bromley, Inc. operates a downhill ski area under a lease agreement. They also operate a number of summer activities in the lease area.
