Here Be Dragonflies - Little River State Park

Can you catch up to 300+ million years of evolution? Check out and try to catch some local dragonflies & damselflies. A limited number of aerial sweep nets are available to borrow, bring extras if you've got them. Meets at A-Side Beach, 1.5 hrs. Wear shoes!

Owl Prowl & Night Ghost Hike at Little River State Park

Become crepuscular on an evening search for creatures of the dusk and visit 19th Century settlement ruins. New routes & stories available for returning ghost hikers. *Flashlights Required.*  VT ghost stories provided; Meet at History Hike Parking Lot; 2 hrs. Sturdy footwear & water REQUIRED! Tour of Waterbury Dam - Little River State Park

Guided walk with awesome mountain views along the crest of Vermont’s largest hand-built earthen dam. How the Civilian Conservation Corps saved the Winooski River Valley from flooded ruin, one rock at a time. Meet at top of Waterbury Dam (Little River Rd. near park gate); 1hr. Call 802-244-7103 in advance to confirm. Kids under age 17 must be accompanied by an adult age 18+.

Hike: Hedgehog Hill Trail to the Goshawk Nest

In June 2021, personnel from the Vermont Dept. of Forests, Parks & Recreation were forced to close the Ricker Farm and Hedgehog Hill Trails at Little River State Park due to aggressively territorial nesting Northern Goshawks.  The trails were reopened as of August 27th when the adults dispersed.  Join Park Interpreter and bird biologist Brian Aust on a guided hike to the  goshawk nest site.  Elevation gain: 750 feet in 0.75 miles, equivalent to 25 flights of stairs. Duration: 2hrs; option to extend. Sturdy shoes are required! Anyone wearing flip-flops or crocs will not be allowed on this hike.
