Proctor Piper State Forest

General Description:

A large forested area on either side of Proctorville Gulf. The terrain is steep to moderate, and the parcel features many types of forest and a beautiful mountain stream along the main access road.

Unique Features:

Two well-maintained gravel state forest roads give excellent access to this forest. Remnants of extensive Civilian Conservation Camp (CCC) picnic sites and trails and the original CCC camp can be found throughout the forest. On the summits, large oaks provide excellent wildlife mast.

Recreation Overview: 

Hunting and snowmobiling are the main recreational activities that occur on Proctor-Piper State Forest. 

Planning Overview:

The current Cavendish Management Unit Long Range Management Plan (LRMP) is active until approximately 2020, when a new LRMP will be prepared.
