This Management Unit is comprised of the following units:
The Brattleboro Management Unit is comprised of four state parks and associated forest lands located in southeastern Vermont.
Dutton Pines State Park
Dutton Pines and Sweet Pond State Parks are popular no-fee day use areas with public parking and trails. Dutton Pines State Park features several historic Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) era structures off State Route 5 while Sweet Pond offers hiking in a more remote and tranquil setting. Fort Dummer and Molly Stark State Parks are traditional fee campgrounds with camping facilities and trails.
Located in an ecologically diverse part of Vermont, some unique features include:
- Uncommon Natural Communities and Plants at Fort Dummer State Park.
- A viewing tower on the summit of Mt. Olga at Molly Stark State Park.
- Hiking trails at all four parcels.
- Historical resources at Dutton Pines, Fort Dummer, and Sweet Pond State Parks.
These parcels offer recreational opportunities in a region with a very limited area of public land.
The condemnation of Sweet Pond Dam and subsequent de-watering of Sweet Pond were and continue to be a major issue for the surrounding region. Future public meetings will occur as the Agency of Natural Resources moves forward with plans to secure funding for repair of the dam. An assessment of the dam structure and alternatives can be found at: www.vtstateparks.com/htm/sweetpond.htm
