General Description:
Dorand State Forest is comprised of two blocks located off Cambridgeport Road and Route 103. Numerous access points exist along Cambridgeport Road. A class 4 road off the point on Route 103, known as “the bow in the river”, provides access on foot or in 4WD to a section that hosts a large wetland complex. Numerous interior woods roads are excellent for walking through the many areas of well managed forest.
Unique Features:
The parcel is situated among a number of other large woodland parcels offering a remote forest setting very close to parking. Black bear, moose, and deer and numerous furbearers frequent the property. Abundant red oak and hickory trees are a favorite food of the abundant wildlife on the parcel.
Recreation Overview:
Recreation on Dorand State Forest consists primarily of dispersed activities such as hunting and fishing. An extensive road system provides opportunities for walking and snowshoeing while the large wetland offers activities such as wildlife viewing and trapping. Portions of the forest are open to primitive camping.
