Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling is a popular sport for those who want to travel greater distances than one could skiing. The forest roads and trails make beautiful corridors for this traditional Vermont Sport.

Snowmobiling is allowed only on designated marked trails as well as unplowed roads in state forests and parks only when there is adequate snow cover (unless specifically closed or designated for other use). There are certain areas where snowmobile use is prohibited as specified in the Rule. Snowmobiling is also prohibited at Fish and Wildlife Access Areas unless used for ice fishing as per established Access Area Rules (10 V.S.A. 4145(a)(5). Snowmobiles must be legally registered.

Vermont has a statewide system of snowmobile trails managed by the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers. This organization also produces a statewide trail map for purchase.

You can learn more about registration and other requirements for snowmobilers at the VAST website.
