Groton Nature Center Programs

10am-11:30: All about Trees

·         Come join Interpreter Meredith for a tree-themed nature hike where we’ll observe and discuss tree diversity, physiology, and tree health.  Field guides will be provided to identify what we find.  Meet at the Nature Center.  Wear close-toed shoes and be prepared for bugs during the hike.

Noon-2pm:  Nature Center Open House

·         There’s so much to see and do here!  You can go on a scavenger hunt, take a hike, create a nature craft, play a game, work on your Jr. Ranger booklet, or simply come and explore.  Wonderful experience for all ages.

2-3pm:  Special Program!

·         Game Warden Mark and his K-9 partner Magooch the black lab will host a demonstration of the various techniques and training used by VT Fish and Wildlife to search out people and poachers, in addition to the variety of other tasks the K-9s are trained to do.

3:30-5:30pm: Fun with Fishing!

·         Program designed as an introduction to fishing for children and/or beginners. We’ll learn about the diverse fish found in Vermont ponds, discuss pond ecology through a hands-on activity, take turns practicing our casting skills on plastic fish in the grass, and then try our hand at the “reel” thing!  Meet at Boulder Beach at the small beach on the right, just past the playground.
