Arlington; Bennington County 225 Acres
General Description:
Established in 1913, Arlington State Forest consists of 225 acres of forest land in the Town of Arlington on the Shaftsbury town line. Located in the Taconic Mountains, the State Forest is on an east-facing slope with moderate to steep terrain. There is no legal right of access to the State Forest.
Unique Features:
Soon after acquisition, in 1914, 46,000 red and white pine seedlings were planted to reclaim old fields. Today much of those plantations have been replaced with northern hardwood forests with a component of red oak through forest management and natural succession.
Recreation Overview:
Recreational use of Arlington State Forest is limited by the lack of legal access to the property.
