General Description:
Fisher-Scott Memorial Pines Natural Area is located in the Vermont Valley in the Town of Arlington in southwestern Vermont. The property was conveyed in 1975 as a gift to the State of Vermont from the heirs of the writer Dorothy Canfield Fisher.
Unique Features:
This site is considered one of the finest large-diameter white pine stands in Vermont. The stand has historical as well as ecological significance, as it was the writing retreat of well-known Vermont author Dorothy Canfield Fisher. Pines in this area are among the biggest and tallest in the state, and sizable hemlocks grow on the slopes along Mill Brook. This site is also a National Natural Landmark (1976).
Recreation Overview:
While the primary goal for this property is the protection of the forest, soils and individual trees, dispersed recreation is permitted on this property and occurs usually in the form of walking, hunting and nature study. There are no designated trails on this property.
