There are many reasons to celebrate our trees and forests. Trees are part of the green infrastructure of our cities, towns, and villages. They provide shade, create recreational opportunities in public spaces, and offer so many other environmental and health-related benefits. And they are simply beautiful!
During the Vermont Arbor Day Conference in the spring, we also celebrate the recipients of the Vermont Tree Steward Awards that recognize individuals and volunteer groups from all over the state who are Vermont tree champions. Further, towns engaged in efforts to expand the value and benefits of public open spaces are recognized through the Vermont Public Places Awards. We also celebrate Vermont's Big Trees and promote and recognize village greens and town forests through collaborative projects with partners.
